A good fitting Sports bra can cut bounce by up to 60%. Breasts are made of soft tissue, which when stretched can find it difficult to recover, and will result in permanent drooping.
The 3 different types of Sports Bra
1. Compression
Designed to secure the breasts against the chest to help reduce bounce and movement. These types of Bras are perfect for medium impact workouts, but can be worn for higher impact sports if the Bra size is under a C cup.
2. Encapsulation
A design that is similar to that of an everyday bra, encapsulation bras create a cup to surround each breast separately, which in turn gives extra support. This type of bra is perfect for high-impact sports and those above a C cup.
3. Combination
The best of both worlds, combination sports bras contain encapsulated cups, but with the firm hold of a compression bra. This gives you maximum support and comfort, and is recommended for runners or those with above average cup sizes.
How should a sports bra feel?
1. It should feel secure, but with enough room under the band to hook your finger underneath. Feeling quite firm around the rib cage with any under wiring sitting comfortably under each breast.
2. Everything should fit. There should be no spillage anywhere in the bra, but also no gaps!
3. The bra should feel quite snug around the underarms but not too snug that it digs into your skin. Wave your arms around and have a wiggle around in the changing room. Expose the bra to movement to see how it moves on you.
4. The shoulder straps should be a perfect fit, this is very important if they are not adjustable. Too high or too low and they won’t give proper support to you. You should be able to fit a finger underneath the band.
